The List Continues: Baptist Hymnal #529, O How I Love Jesus

Norman Rester's list

Song selection Number 4:

To remind you of the premise, it is a list of songs, selected by my Music Minister husband from over 17 years ago....he died on January 5, 1998.  The list was discovered recently in an extra Baptist Hymnal on my book shelf. I have been sharing Norman's message from the grave. The theme is Heaven.

Its also a way to pay homage to songs that many of our children have never heard or are not familiar with. Baptist Hymns are fading in popularity, replaced by modern Contemporary praise music, so if you are not privileged to remember these old tunes, at least check out the lyrics below.

If you know the tune, just sing it while you read. Its hard not to hear a congregation backed by a piano and organ singing loudly on a glorious Sunday morning.....O How I Love Jesus...

Verse 1

There is a name I love to hear,
I love to sing its worth;
it sounds like music in my ear,
the sweetest name on earth.

O how I love Jesus, O how I love Jesus, O how I love Jesus, because he first loved me!

Verse 2

It tells me of a Savior's love,
who died to set me free;
it tells me of his precious blood,
the sinner's perfect plea.

Verse 3

It tells me what my Father hath
in store for every day,
And, tho I tread a darksome path,
Yields sunshine all the way.

Verse 4

It tells of One whose loving heart
Can feel my deepest woe,
Who in each sorrow bears a part
that none can bear below.
