Christian Living for Dummies

I must be a dummy!

2 Timothy 3:14-17 (the message)
But don’t let it faze you. Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your teachers—why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother’s milk!

There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

If I need to do something, or learn something new, I turn to those dummy books. I can’t help it; they draw my attention with their black and yellow beckoning me.

It’s a Dummies R Us store online --because there is a dummy book for everything!

I sure could have used the Sewing for Dummies copy when I was in high school. I recall how I intentionally and willingly cheated in Family Living Home Ed class. Yes, I am ashamed, first for
cheating, second, because it was sewing which for all of my grades was not going to get me a scholarship, and third because I won the award for the class at the end of the year. Guilty! But, I am forgiven.

The fact that my fellow classmates all laughed when I won (being the tomboy, basketball player type) then it was justice served. I really did not deserve it. How embarrassing.

Sure enough, if you have not figured out this Christian thing, the publishers at Dummies have a few titles for you, such as: Christianity for Dummies, The Bible for Dummies, Christian Prayer for Dummies, Revelations for Dummies and Comparative Religion for Dummies.

By the way, I checked, no Mom's for Dummies or Idiots for Dummies! And, Birthing Plans for Dummies does NOT count!

These are guides, how to books, filled with much information. Written by who knows who? Supposed...experts?

So, could I write a Dummies book on what I am an expert in? Titled: Sorting Socks for Dummies or Parental Survivor Skills for Dummies!

I love a good self-help book and digging deeper into subjects. But sometimes I have spent so much time in these helpful man-written books that I failed to go back to the book that should be our mainstay Spiritual guide—The Holy Bible.

The Bible is a how-to guide, a historical document, a novel filled with stories of romance, drama and action. The Bible is a masterpiece of literature alone. Even if you read it in a secular fashion, it would be fascinating and entertaining as one of the most important, if not THE most important book ever written.

For me, the one thing the Bible has for me that I do not find in any other manuscript is that-- it is how God speaks to me, not via smoke or old English baritone man voices but through reading and opening myself up.

The Creator of all things has manifested these words through man, inspiring many authors from many backgrounds and has been the Holy Editor directing their writing.

Scripture tells us what is expected of humanity, why we are here, and what should happen when we die. It is the beginning story to the end story. The words reveal the character of a Holy God and provide us with the tools to live.

Awesome indeed.

If you have a problem, read and pray. If you are curious, whether for or against Jesus, then read and investigate why so many zillions of others do believe that Jesus is Lord of all. What could it hurt?

Unfortunately, our worse critics prefer to read the lives and actions of professing Christians and they are turned off by their testimony.

Man is weak. The word is powerful. Don’t ignore it.

So, am I a dummy? Sure. Because when it comes to the monumental amount of information the Bible represents, I have only scratched the surface.

But the real dummy is the person who won’t pick up the Word and find out for themselves if it is real, if it says something to them.

What if it contradicts what their heart, or brain, is telling them?

I believe that at the end of all things if I discovered that there was no God --then looking back at my life, I still think it would have been served better with believing in Christ, than not.

So, if you refuse to believe, its your freedom and your choice but at least care enough to check out the possibilities, otherwise you can pick up the Atheism for Dummies, because yes, they have one for that too.

Remember, love is the evidence of a real Christian, not judgment.

Have an awesome day!
